Joseph-Maurice Ravel (* 7. März 1875 in Ciboure, Département Pyrénées-Atlantiques; † 28. Dezember 1937 in Paris) war ein französischer Komponist und neben Claude Debussy Hauptvertreter des Impressionismus in der Musik. Boléro, Ballettmusik (1928; Fassung für Klavier zu vier Händen 1929) Der Tänzerin Ida Rubinstein ist die Komposition, die in der Zeit von von Juli bis Oktober 1928 entstand gewidmet. Sie bat Maurice Ravel im Jahr 1927 für sie ein Musikstück in Form eines spanischen Balletts zu entwerfen. Die Ballett-Uraufführung erfolgte am 22. November 1928 in der Pariser Oper mit der Tänzerin Ida Rubinstein.
